.Promote your book online

So you’ve published your book, poured all your expertise and wisdom into it and are ready to get the clients rolling in from all over world! Wait…. the publishing of the book is just the beginning. Now the journey has just begun. How to promote your book online?

I’m Daniella Blechner, Author, Book Journey Mentor and Founder of Conscious Dreams Publishing. We transform writers into successful published authors and provide bespoke publishing and mentoring services to  entrepreneurs all over the world.

So if you are looking for how to promote your book online, you are at the right place! Over the last four years we’ve published more than 80 books and mentored 190 authors and aspiring authors helping them to develop their skill set in writing, publishing, book marketing and promotion, social media, branding, public speaking and confidence.

Why? Because we understand that having a great book is fantastic but being able to market, promote and sell your book is crucial. Let us help you learn how to promote your book online.

Books are a great way to leverage your business. You can establish yourself as an authority in your field, put yourself in front of a global audience and build your credibility increasing your clientele.

Your book should serve as an extension to your brand but if you are solely relying on only one or two ways of establishing your brand and presence then you could be missing out on crucial opportunities to reach your target market. So you must promote your book online.

As the climate has changed tremendously over the last few months, it’s imperative that, as business owners, we are adaptable. Benjamin Franklin said ‘Change is the only constant. One’s ability to adapt will determine your success.’

As more and more events and public meets have been restricted, we’ve been forced to think innovatively and learn new ways of building our audience online. With that said, here are five ways to promote your book online.

1.  Use video testimonials from readers

Sophia Mayers is the Founder of Afro Impressions hair salon. She wrote ‘Curly Kyla’ as she’d come across many young children who didn’t like their afro hair. Her book instils a positive identity, raises their self-esteem and empowers these children.

Her book is now part of her brand. As young girl who grew up a misfit with a huge afro and no characters in books that looked like, this book was especially dear to me as representation is key.

Did you know only 5% of children’s fiction feature a (BAME) Black, Asian or Minority Ethic character? When we promoted her book, we used video testimonials from young girls with curly hair who explained why having such a book was empowering.

They spoke about their own challenges of accepting their curly afro hair and expressed their excitement for the release of this book. These videos had 1000s of views and were a great promotion tool resulting in 100s of sales before the book even came out. Sophia sold 339 books within 5 days of her book being on pre-order. The average self-published author sells 250 books in a lifetime! Let your readers do the talking!

2. Create a book trailer

Our author Lisa Cybaniak is an NLP Transformational Coach, survivor of ten years’ of child abuse and author of ‘Survivor to Warrior’.

Her book not only shares her story but is also offers powerful tools and strategies to help survivors of trauma break limiting belief systems and create the life they deserve. We created a book launch trailer for her to use as part of her marketing strategy and that could become one of the best way to promote your book online.

This has proved a powerful way to connect with others and increase sales. National statistics show that by 2022 online videos will make up more than 82% of internet traffic and Renderforest survey say that 78% of users got more traffic to their website after using videos resulting in 44% more conversions.

Not only does video help build that know, like and trust factor with your viewer, but did you know that viewers retain 95% of a message when they watch a video compared to only 10% when reading it in text? This is surely a win-win for your book and your business! Book launch trailers and book trailers are a fun and visual way to connect to your potential client and create a lasting impression. 3. Create an Online Course

We worked with Usha Chudasama, Child and Adult Positive Psychologist. Her book, ‘Your Happy Child: 7 Proven Steps to Raising a Happy Child‘ serves as an extension of her knowledge and expertise in her field.

Since publishing her book with us, Usha has gone on to speak at schools, create and establish links with parents and teachers running her own workshop Your Happy Child and launch an online course. Learn how to promote your book online.

As entrepreneurs, we should always view our books as marketing tools. Repurposing is key. Using the book as guide, Usha was able to base her online course on the 7 proven steps within the book and gain a new online following.

Launching online and creating an online Facebook event meant that clients could create a personal connection with her before buying her course, which of course, had a clear upsell of how to work with her on a 1-2-1 basis. Nurture your online clients.

4Have an online book launch

Holistic Health and Wellbeing Coach, and my very own sister, Francesca Blechner launched her book Self-Care for Life in the City online. As her book came out right at the start of lockdown, we had to think quickly and find alternate ways to launch.

Sadly, this meant cancelling her physical book launch planned for May but we were adamant that this would not deter us. We launched Francesca’s book by creating a Facebook event.

We created a buzz on social media and had a full house of people from all over the globe! Having an online launch enabled me to host the event, interview Francesca and have her clients and readers give testimonials and reviews.

The great thing about launching online is that people were able to connect with Francesca personally and get their questions answered on livestream. And now we have an evening to remember as anyone can now watch the replay of her magical evening!

5Get  credible reviews

Reviews are incredibly important for the credibility of your book. Reviews from reliable sources can really enhance your sales and establish you as an authority in your field. This week has been a real win for me as I managed to secure a review for my book ‘Lockdown Life’, a humorous and reflective snapshot of lockdown.

Alex Wheatle, MBE and award-winning British novelist and author of the Crongton series, reviewed my book saying, “It’s an essential guide for anyone who has survived the stresses of lockdown. On point, well-crafted and oh so witty. Daniella should be sitting on Loose Women expressing her views on lockdown life.” Since gaining this review, I’ve posted online, tagged in the author as well as the presenters of Loose Women morning show in the UK!

This is is a great marketing tool that can be used on the back or front of your book. It’s important to secure reviews from people and sources that are relevant to your book, for example, for Lockdown Life, the aim was to showcase my skill as a writer so the vision was to find reviews from credible, established authors and comedians.

However, if you are positioning yourself as an expert in your field, it’s imperative you gain reviews from established experts within that field. Think big. Don’t be afraid to reach out to well-known people, media outlets and experts. You have one shot to impress. Go for it!

Remember adaptability is key. Think outside of the box and never be afraid to step outside of your comfort zone. Show up and increase your visibility online and provide people with an experience to remember.
